Who sells the 12 inch pizza?

The 12 inch is the medium on most UK takeaway menus. For many shops it is also the size that sells most. It feeds one hungry person or two sharing, so it covers solo orders, couples and the main pizza in a family meal.

Pizzerias and takeaways order it in the biggest runs. Pubs that serve pizza often make it their only size, because one box and one dough ball keep the kitchen simple. Dark kitchens lean on it for delivery. Street food vans pick it when a 10 inch looks small for the price.

This box moves fastest, so it is worth getting right first. You can then match the rest of our full Pizza Boxes by Size range to it.

Which box size fits a 12 inch pizza properly?

A 12 inch pizza measures 305 mm across. Our box is 12.25 x 12.25 x 1.75 in (311 x 311 x 44 mm) inside, a quarter inch over the pizza.

That small gap lets the base slide in off the peel without catching the crust. It also stops the pizza shifting about when the box is carried flat.

14 inch (356 mm)14.25 x 14.25 x 1.75 in (362 x 362 x 44 mm)Large, often for sharing

If your dough stretches a little wider than 12 inch, measure a few real bakes and send us the figure. If your 12 inch bakes wider or comes as deep pan, we make a box to the exact measurement you give us.

Which board suits a 12 inch box?

You can have E-flute (about 1.5 mm) or B-flute (about 3 mm) corrugated, in white or brown kraft. Both fold the same way and take the same print.

E-flute suits counter collection and short delivery runs. It is thinner, so more flat boxes fit on the shelf, and print looks crisp on its smooth face.

The thicker B-flute wall holds heat a little longer than E-flute. We usually suggest it for 14 and 16 inch delivery boxes. It also makes sense for a 12 inch on longer routes, or when bags are stacked high.

If you are torn between the two, read our guide to E-flute vs B-flute before you order.

How many 12 inch boxes fit in a delivery bag?

Many delivery bags are cut for 16 inch boxes, so a 12 inch stack sits inside with room to spare. Measure the inside base of your bag and check it is wider than 311 mm.

Each box is 44 mm deep, so the height of the bag decides how many go in. A driver can usually stack four 12 inch boxes in a standard bag, with a side order tucked beside them.

Stacking works best when every box closes flat and square. A few habits help the stack arrive the way it left.

  • Put the largest order at the bottom of the stack.
  • Tuck every lid in fully so the next box sits level.
  • Turn the vents to the same side so steam has one way out.
  • Fill side gaps with dip pots or side boxes so the stack cannot slide.

How is a 12 inch pizza usually cut?

Most shops cut a 12 inch into eight slices. Some cut six for bigger slices, and party orders sometimes go to squares so a crowd can share.

Eight slices lift out cleanly from a box this size. Each slice has enough crust to hold, and the gap at the corners leaves room for a dip pot.

Cut on the board, then slide the pizza into the box in one move. Cutting inside the box scores the base and can split the corrugation along the line.

If you do cut in the box, a corrugated liner under the pizza takes up oil and gives the wheel something to run on.

Printing on the lid and sides

The lid is the first thing your customer sees, so most shops put the logo and phone number there. A 12.25 in lid gives you room for a menu line or an offer without crowding.

Print can be plain, one colour, two colours or full colour. One-colour red on brown kraft looks bold and warm. Full colour suits white board, where photos and fine detail stay clear.

Side panels carry your name around the box, so it still reads in a stack on the counter. You can also print inside the lid with a message or your reorder number, and add a matt or gloss varnish.

Why do 12 inch boxes need vents?

A hot pizza gives off steam the moment the lid closes. If that steam cannot escape, it settles back into the crust and the base turns soft.

Round vents near the hinge, as in our third photo, let steam leave through the back of the box. Side vents do the same job on the front edge.

Never tape over vents to trap heat. A soft base loses a regular faster than a pizza that is a touch cooler.

Vents matter most on long routes and in stacked bags. There is more on this in keeping pizza hot and crisp in delivery.

How the box folds and locks

Each 12 inch box arrives as one flat piece of corrugated board. It folds into a base, double walls and a hinged lid with no glue or staples.

  1. Lay the flat blank print side down on a clean worktop.
  2. Raise the front wall and both side walls of the 12 inch base along their creases.
  3. Turn the corner flaps in so they sit inside the side walls.
  4. Fold the lid over and press the creases flat.
  5. Bring the lid down and slot its tuck-in flap behind the front wall of the base.

The two small tabs on the lid edge lock into the front wall, so the lid stays shut when a driver lifts the box from the bag. After a few shifts, most staff fold one in well under a minute.

How do the boxes arrive and stack by the oven?

Boxes come flat in bundles, with free tracked UK mainland delivery in 2 to 3 working days. Flat boxes take far less room than folded ones.

Most kitchens fold a tower before service and keep the flat bundles on a shelf near the oven. A folded 12 inch tower stands steady because each box closes square.

Keep bundles off the floor and away from the dough prover, where damp air can soften the board. Check each delivery when it lands, and any misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

Mistakes to avoid with 12 inch boxes

Ordering a 12 inch box for a pizza that spreads past 12 inch is the most common slip. The crust presses on the walls and the lid bows, so measure real bakes first.

Choosing E-flute for a long delivery route can leave the base softer on arrival. Pick B-flute if your drivers cover wide areas or stack bags high.

Small text on a brown kraft lid can be hard to read from across a counter. Use bold shapes and fewer words, and check them on your free proof.

Running short before a busy weekend is easy when this is your fastest-moving box. Allow for the proof, 4 to 6 working days of production and delivery when you reorder.

How do I order 12 inch pizza boxes?

Tell us the board, the board colour, the print and roughly how many boxes you need. Minimums are low and quoted per job, and every order is quoted by email within one working day.

We send a free design proof, and nothing is printed until you approve it. Boxes start from £0.25 a box, and your quote shows the exact figure for your print.

If you sell other sizes too, we can carry the same artwork across every box so your range looks like one set. When you are ready, request a quote for 12 inch boxes or message us on WhatsApp.

12 Inch Pizza Boxes questions

All help topics
What are the inside measurements of a 12 inch pizza box?

The box is 12.25 x 12.25 x 1.75 in (311 x 311 x 44 mm) inside. That is a quarter inch over a 12 inch (305 mm) pizza.

Should I choose E-flute or B-flute for 12 inch delivery?

E-flute suits counter collection and short runs. Choose B-flute for longer routes or tall stacks, since the thicker wall holds heat a little longer.

How many 12 inch pizza boxes fit in a delivery bag?

A driver can usually stack four 12 inch boxes in a standard bag built for larger pizzas. Check that the inside base of your bag is wider than 311 mm.

How many slices should a 12 inch pizza be cut into for this box?

Most shops cut eight slices, and some cut six for bigger portions. Cut on the board before boxing so the base of the box is not scored.

Can I print my logo on the lid and sides of a 12 inch pizza box?

Yes. You can print plain, one colour, two colours or full colour on the lid, on the sides and inside the lid.

Do 12 inch pizza boxes have vents to let steam out?

Yes, vents can sit near the hinge or along the side walls. Tell us where you want them when you ask for your quote.

Will a deep pan pizza fit a 12 inch box at 1.75 in deep?

At 1.75 in (44 mm) deep, the standard 12 inch box is right for thin and classic crusts. For deep pan we make a deeper box to the size you send.

Are 12 inch pizza boxes delivered flat or folded?

They arrive flat in bundles, so they take little shelf space. Each one folds by hand with tuck-in flaps and no glue.

Do 12 inch boxes come in white board as well as brown kraft?

Yes, both white and brown kraft are available in E-flute and B-flute. White suits full colour print, while kraft gives one-colour print a warm look.

Should I put a liner in a 12 inch pizza box?

A liner sits between the base and the board and takes up oil from the pizza. See our Pizza Box Liners cut to size for the options.

How does the lid of a 12 inch box stay shut in a bag?

The front of the lid tucks down inside the front wall. Two small tabs on the lid edge then lock it in place.

Can my 12 inch boxes match the print on my 14 inch boxes?

Yes. Send both sizes on one request and we fit the same artwork to each lid, with a free proof for every size.
