Drawn around one slice

Each box is drawn around the slice you cut, not around a whole pizza. The slice sits snug, so toppings stay put on the walk from the counter.

What is a pizza slice box and who uses it?

A pizza slice box is a small triangle box that holds one slice. The base is a shallow tray with three walls, and a hinged lid folds over and tucks shut at the front.

It suits anyone who sells by the slice rather than the whole pizza. Counter service at lunch, street food vans, market stalls, pub kitchens and event pitches all use them.

Pizza Slice Boxes sit in our slice and speciality pizza box range, next to long calzone boxes and frozen pizza cartons.

  • Pizzerias selling slices from a heated counter at lunchtime
  • Street food vans and market stalls serving a moving queue
  • Pubs that offer a slice alongside a pint
  • Caterers at match days, parties and office lunches
  • Dark kitchens adding a single slice to the delivery menu

What size slice box do you need?

A slice box is sized to the slice, not the pizza. A slice from a 16 inch pizza cut into eight is longer than one from a 12 inch cut into six.

Send us the pizza diameter and the number of slices you cut. We draw the triangle around that slice with a little room at the crust, so the edge does not press against the back wall.

The table shows what to tell us for the pizzas most slice sellers bake. Final box measurements come back on your proof for you to check.

14 inch (356 mm)6 or 8 slicesPizza size, slice count and crust style
16 inch (406 mm)8 slicesPizza size, slice count and crust style

Deep slices need taller walls, so mention crust depth on your brief. For whole pizzas, compare our pizza box sizes in inches and mm.

Which board suits a single slice?

E-flute corrugated is about 1.5 mm thick. It folds crisply on a small triangle, takes fine print well and keeps a stack of flat boxes slim.

B-flute is about 3 mm thick. Its thicker wall keeps a slice warm a little longer than E-flute, and the box flexes less when carried across a busy event site.

Most counter sellers choose E-flute. Vans, stalls and walk-away trade often move to B-flute. Our guide to E-flute vs B-flute pizza boxes compares both side by side.

White, black or printed slice boxes

Plain white board looks clean and makes one-colour print look sharp. Brown kraft gives a warmer, market-stall look, and red or black ink on kraft reads clearly from the queue.

Black slice boxes are white or kraft board with a full black ink cover on the outside. The inside can stay bare, so the slice sits on plain board.

  • Plain: no ink, just white or brown kraft board
  • One colour: your logo or name in a single ink
  • Two colours: a logo plus an accent, such as red sides on a white lid
  • Full colour: food artwork, photos or a solid black cover

Print can run on the lid, round the side walls and inside the lid. Matt varnish suits black boxes, and gloss lifts full-colour food artwork.

Upload your logo on the Design Your Pizza Box page and we send a free proof before anything is printed.

Does a pizza slice box need vents?

One slice gives off less steam than a whole pizza, but it still steams once the lid is shut. Trapped moisture softens the base on a long walk.

We can cut small vent holes in the side walls. They let steam out without opening the box, so the base stays crisper.

For eat-now counter trade, many sellers skip vents because the lid opens almost straight away. For vans, stalls with a walk to seating, and delivery, ask for vents on your brief.

How does a slice box fold and lock?

Each box arrives as one flat piece of board, cut and creased. The walls fold up, the corner flaps tuck inside, and the tray holds its shape.

The lid is joined to the tray along a crease. It swings over the slice, and a rounded tuck flap at the front slots into the front wall. A thumb notch on the lid edge lets you lift it with one hand.

  1. Lay the flat blank on the counter, print side down
  2. Fold the three walls up along the creases
  3. Tuck the corner flaps inside to lock the walls square
  4. Slide the slice in with the crust at the wide end
  5. Close the lid and press the rounded flap into the front slot

How do slice boxes arrive and store beside the oven?

Slice boxes come flat, banded in packs. Flat triangles stack tightly, so a weekend's supply fits on a shelf above the prep counter.

Fold a short run before service and line them up on their sides. Folded boxes take far more room than flat ones, so fold only what the next hour needs.

In a van, keep flat packs in a dry crate away from the oven door. Damp board loses its crease and folds less cleanly.

Mistakes to avoid with pizza slice boxes

Most slice box problems start with the brief rather than the board. The slip-ups below are the ones that turn up on slice box orders again and again.

  • Sizing to the whole pizza instead of the slice, so the slice slides about
  • Choosing E-flute for a van where boxes are stacked and carried a long way
  • Placing small text across the lid crease, where the fold breaks it up
  • Leaving out vents on slices that travel before they are eaten
  • Ordering a full black cover without checking the inside colour on the proof
  • Folding a whole day's boxes at once and losing counter space

Can you pair slice boxes with sides and liners?

A slice often sells with garlic bread, wings or a dip. Trays and small boxes printed in the same colours make a meal deal look like one order.

For oily toppings, a board liner cut to the triangle sits between the base and the box. It takes up oil, so the printed tray stays clean.

Ask for the same artwork on both and we proof them together.

Do pizza slice boxes work for delivery?

They can, though most slices are eaten close to the counter. If you add single slices to a delivery menu, choose B-flute and ask for side vents.

Closed triangles pack well in a bag when you lay them point to crust in alternate rows. A couple can also ride on top of a whole pizza box.

A one-colour mark on the lid helps the driver check the order at the door.

How do you order pizza slice boxes?

Tell us the pizza size, slice count, board and print. Send it through the pizza box quote request form, by email to info@thepizzaboxes.co.uk or on WhatsApp.

Send your slice box brief and we email your price back within one working day. Prices start from £0.25 a box, and low minimums are quoted per job, so a small van can order a short run.

Production takes 4 to 6 working days after you approve the proof. Your flat packs of slice boxes then reach any UK mainland address in 2 to 3 working days, with free tracked delivery.

Misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

Pizza Slice Boxes questions

All help topics
Will Pizza Slice Boxes fit a slice from a 16 inch pizza?

Yes. We draw each box around your slice, so tell us the pizza size and how many slices you cut. A 16 inch pizza cut into eight is a common brief.

Can Pizza Slice Boxes hold two slices?

They are cut around one slice, so two would sit on top of each other. For two or three slices, a small square box such as a 9 inch usually works better.

How are black Pizza Slice Boxes made?

They start as white or brown kraft board with a full black ink cover printed on the outside. The inside can stay bare board or carry its own print.

Can you print inside the lid of a pizza slice box?

Yes. Print can go inside the lid, so customers see a message or logo when they open it. It shows on your free proof first.

What keeps the hinged lid on a triangle slice box shut?

A rounded tuck flap on the front of the lid slots into the front wall. It holds the lid down without tape, and a thumb notch helps it open again.

Do Pizza Slice Boxes arrive flat or folded?

They arrive flat and banded in packs. You fold each one quickly at the counter, which keeps storage small in a van or kitchen.

Which board is better for Pizza Slice Boxes sold from a van?

B-flute, about 3 mm, suits vans and stalls where boxes are carried further. E-flute, about 1.5 mm, suits counter service where the slice is eaten straight away.

Can Pizza Slice Boxes have vent holes?

Yes. We can cut small vents in the side walls to let steam out. They help when a slice travels before it is eaten.

Will a deep pan slice fit in a pizza slice box?

It will if we know about it. Tell us the crust depth and we set taller walls so the lid closes without pressing on the toppings.

Can I get brown kraft Pizza Slice Boxes with one-colour print?

Yes. One colour on brown kraft suits stalls and vans well, and red or black ink reads clearly on the board.

How long do printed Pizza Slice Boxes take?

Production is 4 to 6 working days after you approve the free proof. Free tracked UK mainland delivery then takes 2 to 3 working days.

Should I use Pizza Slice Boxes or a small square box for one slice?

A slice box fits the triangle closely and uses less board. Our guide to choosing boxes for slices, calzone and frozen pizza compares the options.
